Social media has become the way for people around the globe to communicate more effectively and creatively. Countless people use social networking sites as a source of entertainment, a medium for running businesses, and more.
Numerous careers have found their beginnings in various social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and, more recently, TikTok. Young musician Anthony Hathaway is an excellent example of how social media elevated a previously unknown career. With three releases having more than 100,000 streams on Spotify and SoundCloud, he’s on his way to a very promising career in the music industry.
Anthony grew up in a small neighborhood of Toronto, Canada, where music was most families’ bread and butter. Most adults in the neighborhood worked in bars and nightclubs where Anthony’s parents often performed as members of a band. His mother was one of the most popular female band vocalists in town. At the same time, his father was a highly-skilled guitarist and drummer.
Anthony was never force to choose music as a career despite his parents being accomplished musicians in their local area. In fact, he was pushed to do something else and explore other areas where he might find his passion. However, music was in his veins. This was evidence by his innate singing prowess, which he inherited from his mother. Learning to play some instruments was also easy for Anthony.
Anthony was a regular performer at school during his elementary days. When he entered college, he tried guesting in some of his parents’ gigs and earned some money. Anthony was on track to follow in his parent’s footsteps, and they were very supportive of him after seeing how skilled he was.
Anthony started listening to songs of other genres during those years to expand his horizons and experiment with different sounds. Electronic dance music stood out to him as his preferred genre since it was entirely different from the type of music he grew up listening to. Anthony start practicing different EDM instruments like mixers, synthesizers, and turntables and he was determine to master this genre.
In just under five months, Anthony became fluent in using different EDM equipment and started creating some EDM tracks of his own. He shared most of his compositions on his personal social media pages like Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter. Later, he created profiles in SoundCloud and Spotify, where he uploaded the same set of tracks.
One of Anthony’s earliest works entitled “Drastic Changes” gained over a hundred thousand streams on SoundCloud in just a few months. This fame opened the doors for Anthony as he started receiving offers from different recording labels to launch his mainstream career. Anthony share that he’s very close to signing a deal, but a few details are still being polish.
Anthony is proof that fame and fortune can be found through social media. With hard work and dedication to master one’s passion, nothing is impossible, even in the very demanding world of the music industry. Anthony’s goals include releasing an album and touring the world with some of his idols in the industry Anthony Hathaway.
