Sam Altman’s financial and sexual claims.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has vehemently denied claims of financial and sexual abuse levied against him by his sister. The claims were part of a lawsuit filed recently by his sister, who claimed the abuse started when she was three years old and continued for almost a decade. Altman has called the accusations “utterly untrue” in a public statement signed by him, his brothers, and their mother.
The Filed Lawsuit
The lawsuit, filed according to CNBC on January 7, said the alleged sexual assaults left the sister with mental distress and depression. She further claimed that her family members had withheld funds, hacked her internet, and even censored her on platforms like ChatGPT and Twitter. Altman reacted to these allegations on the social media platform X on January 8.
Sam Altman Sentiments.
The response by Altman is one of utter sadness over the situation, citing how such allegations have brought immense pain to his family: “This situation causes immense pain to our entire family. It is especially gut-wrenching when she refuses conventional treatment and lashes out at family members who are genuinely trying to help,” he said.
Altman also said his family had supported his sister financially and medically over the years, but she is now seeking more money. He indicated that her accusations, including the one of sexual abuse, were connected to those financial disputes.
The worst allegation she has made was that she was sexually abused by me as a child,” Altman wrote. “She claimed initially that she could not recall a single incident of abuse, which she now retracted and replaced with this new set of allegations against incidents when I was already over 18 years old.
In a Nutshell
The CEO of OpenAI said his family has always tried to be supportive of his sister while taking the emotional toll of her accusations. Altman’s mother and brothers signed the open letter in what appears to be a united front that the claims are unfounded. This legal dispute puts Altman, a big name in the tech world, in the limelight and brings the balance between public success and private family conflicts into question.
