Finding a fresh idea in music isn’t always easy, but it becomes harder when you write about such universal topics, like family. For sibling trio CB+J, the inspiration behind their single, “We Love Our Mama,” arrived in a regular conversation that unexpectedly gained momentum. What began as a joke eventually became a high-energy rock song celebrating mothers, giving the band a message they hope families can enjoy together for years to come.

The members of CB+J feature Bella Rose Petry, Joseph “JJ” Petry Jr., and Clark Petry. This sibling group mixes rock styles with songwriting processes that involve a uniqueness from all members of the family. Even though “We Love Our Mama” was created in honor of the trio’s mother, Marie, it was evident that the song can be used by others as well.

A Question That Started Everything

The idea occurred when JJ and his dad were at the gym, exercising, and playing classic and rock music. “As we were discussing all the amazing rock bands, we realized that there weren’t any songs about loving your mother,” the band reminisces. “Everyone has a mother, so we thought, why not make one?”

That conversation became the premise of “We Love Our Mama.” Capitalizing on JJ’s love of rock music, the members made sure to include guitars, drums, and lyrics that encourage the audience to participate in singing along with them.

“We wanted something people could yell together,” they said. “When everyone joins the chorus during a live show, it creates an amazing atmosphere.”

Built by Three Siblings

Although Bella took the lead in shaping the song, every member of CB+J helped bring it to life. Bella took care of the lead vocals and the writing of the song, JJ played the guitar bits with the standout solo, while Clark held down the drum part of the song. All the siblings came up with contributions to the arrangements as well.

The recording sessions reflected the family’s easygoing chemistry. One unscripted moment became an instant favorite when Clark finished a take and innocently asked, “Is that good?” The family laughed and quickly decided the line deserved a place in the finished recording.

Working together has also taught the siblings valuable lessons beyond music. “Making songs together has taught us patience, how to listen to each other, and to respect everyone’s ideas,” they shared.

A Song That Celebrates Every Mom

Marie inspired the song and proudly calls it her favorite, but CB+J never intended for “We Love Our Mama” to remain just a personal family tribute. They recognized there were surprisingly few songs dedicated specifically to mothers and saw an opportunity to create something listeners of all ages could embrace.

CB+J’s idea extends beyond the music itself. The band is currently developing a “We Are the World” inspired music video featuring photographs of mothers from different cultures, countries, religions, and backgrounds. The goal is to remind people that while the world often feels divided, one experience connects everyone.

“We hope people realize we have more in common than we sometimes think,” the band said. “Everyone has a mama.”

As CB+J continues working on future releases, including “We Love Our Grannys” and Bella’s original song “A Light in the Darkness,” the family’s focus remains on creating music with heart. “We Love Our Mama” captures that approach perfectly, pairing an energetic rock sound with a message that feels familiar, personal, and easy for audiences to sing along with long after the final chorus ends.
