The San Diego Comic-Con International is one of the best indicators of where Hollywood is placing its bets for the future. In addition, this year’s star-studded event proved that once again. Over the weekend, Marvel Studios, AMC, Apple TV, and Prime Video thrilled Comic-Con crowds with casting reveals, trailers, and exclusive first look footage.
Arguably, the biggest reveal of the weekend was the unveiling of David Jonsson to don the suit of Black Panther. Ryan Coogler will direct Black Panther III, which is scheduled for release in 2028. However, the project also features other recurring cast members such as Letitia Wright and Winston Duke.

This is one of Marvel Studio’s crown jewels, and the iconic character is one of the most beloved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, the sad passing of Chadwick, the first to don the vibranium suit of Wakanda’s protector back in 2020, hit everyone hard.
The first film took in over $1.3 billion worldwide, and the sequel earned approximately $850 million globally. Needless to say, expectations are high for the first outing of T’Challa’s son.
Ryan Gosling Rides into the MCU
Eventually, Marvel will bring back one of its most iconic characters, Ghost Rider, with Hollywood heavyweight Ryan Gosling set to assist in playing the role. Marvel has waited a long time to reacquire the film rights to the franchise from Sony. Basically, his return will see him pair up with Shawn Levy in the director’s seat. The two know each other well, having collaborated on Star Wars: Starfighter.
Avengers: Doomsday Assembles Cast of Heavy Hitters
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige also introduced a mega-panel of stars to the stage for the announcement of Avengers: Doomsday. Hollywood stars and luminaries on stage included the Russo Brothers, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, and more.
Marvel presented each attendee with a sweeping green cloak to wear and a Doctor Doom mask. Robert Downey Jr., who will play the masked villain, was there in character to engage with them. “It ain’t easy being green,” he quipped. The next outing for Marvel’s highest grossing franchise (over $33 billion worldwide) is slated for December 18 this year. This is to be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.
The audience erupted with cheers immediately after Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds made an impromptu appearance. At the end of Marvel’s presentation, the star appeared in a grey costume, exchanging playful barbs with RDJ and Paul Rudd. Indeed, the trio is always good for a laugh, and they did not disappoint this time.
The packed Hall H panel reflected Marvel’s determination to regain momentum after a string of somewhat erratic releases. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to post extraordinary numbers at the box office. There’s growing anticipation around Avengers: Doomsday. Furthermore, Marvel Studios hopes that a new generation of heroes, coupled with the return of fan favorites, will reignite the world’s enthusiasm for the MCU.
