Nigerian singer and rapper St. Bush further explores his identity as an artist through his second single, ‘Hold Me Close,’ a track that exudes emotion, control, and intimacy.
St. Bush, born Kennedy Ohiole Airende, hails from Benin City in Edo State. In his growing years, music was much more than just background noise to him; it was a form of self-expression for him. Early influences on young Kennedy were artists like Bobby Brown and Nina Simone, whose styles reflected sincerity and emotional depth to him.
He made his debut with the song ‘East Side’ in July 2025. He showed his unique style of fusing his music, achieving initial success by getting past the 70,000 streams threshold. Ever since then, he has attracted more audiences on TikTok, and his sound keeps gaining recognition in the industry. Peers tend to refer to him as “Englishman” due to his voice.
ST. BUSH’S NEW SONG: HOLD ME CLOSE
St. Bush approaches more personal topics with his new follow-up single ‘Hold Me Close’ via Soft Sly Men Music. Released on March 27th, this song starts with a direct statement: “Baby hold me close, please never let me go.” From here, the listener gets drawn into a more private and vulnerable world. The atmosphere changes throughout the song. As the verses progress, they become more confident. At the same time, the artist performs his lines loosely, giving hints about how he manages his tension while embracing the topic of intimacy.
The instrumentation on ‘Hold Me Close,’ perfectly produced by EDEN!, remains minimalist yet textured as the smooth melodies come over atmospheric backgrounds. Its rhythm has a subdued beat that works well for night-time listening. ‘Hold Me Close’ is typically meant for introspective reflection. The lyrics discuss the gap between emotional dependency and sexual attraction without immediately clarifying either side.
St. Bush is not being too much here. He does not overload the track with anything. His decision to let the mood take charge makes sure that his vocals are not disturbed by anything else. This is definitely a new milestone for him. It demonstrates a new level of maturity both in terms of sounds and directions.
Since the release of ‘Hold Me Close,’ the 2-minute track has garnered over 100,000 streams on all digital streaming platforms, according to the label on Instagram. ‘HMD’ also peaked #44 on the iTunes Music: Nigeria chart. The only thing left to see now is whether he continues within these boundaries or explores other territory while staying in control.
