There’s something liberating about not taking yourself too seriously, and that’s exactly the message The Something Club is sending with their upcoming single, “You’re Weird.” The Toronto-based duo is turning self-expression into an anthem, proving that weird is not only good, but it’s also essential.

The Something Club’s origin story feels as spontaneous as their sound. Meeting at Harris Institute, an audio production and management school, the two were randomly paired in a songwriting class. What was once a simple project turned into an unexpected creative partnership. “We found this chemistry that just worked,” they recall. “We both wanted to make something bold, something that didn’t care about fitting in.”

Their music fuses Hailey’s love of dance and theatrical performance with Shayne’s grounding in funk, R&B, and house. The result is unpredictable and full of life, the kind of sound that refuses to sit neatly in any one box.

Their new single, “You’re Weird,” began with laughter. Shayne built an eight-bar loop so quirky it made them both laugh out loud. Instead of discarding it, they leaned in and built a song that felt playful, unhinged, and beautifully human. “It had this silly, infectious energy,” they said. “We just followed where it took us.”

The track blends funky basslines, disco-inspired rhythms, and a feel-good vibe reminiscent of Pharrell’s “Happy.” There’s something freeing about it, like rolling the windows down on a sunny day or dancing in your kitchen with no one watching, but beneath all that joy lies a deeper sentiment.

“We live in a culture that’s scared of being cringy,” the duo explains. “Everyone’s trying so hard to be cool. ‘You’re Weird’ is about letting go of that and just being yourself. It’s about embracing what makes you different.”

That message hits home in an era where online trends often dictate personality. “You’re Weird” feels like the antidote to stop overthinking and start feeling. The Something Club is reminding us that authenticity doesn’t have to mean polished; it can be messy, funny, and real.

And this is only the beginning. The single sets the stage for a string of five songs, finally leading into their debut album, “One Day I’ll Die.”

Each release promises to explore a different side of the human experience, and if “You’re Weird” is any indication, it’s going to be one beautiful rollercoaster of sound and emotion.
